School expansion
Derwent Primary School is currently a 1 form entry lower school from Reception to Year 5. We provide 30 places in each year and 180 lower school places in total. In addition we have 26 nursery places in our pre-school.
In September 2021 the age range was adjusted at Derwent as we became a primary school. This new Year 5 class has been called Otters class. We will also had our first Year 6 class in September 2022 (Hawks) as well as our very first mixed Key Stage 1 class (Hares).
From September 2022 we expanded by 1 form of entry. This means that we will ultimately provide 60 places in each year and 420 primary school places in total. In addition we have 52 nursery places in our pre-school.
These changes are part of a process that we have been planning for a long time and are linked to Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC) ‘Schools for the Future’ programme. In August 2020 CBC agreed that all schools in this area should become primary or secondary schools. As a number of schools are academies, this also required the permission of the regional school commissioner. This permission was granted on the 30th September 2020.
